“I really like the syllabus and the teachers make lessons enjoyable and interesting to study. Geography helps to develop my understanding of the world we live in”
Y12 student.
Curricular Intent:
We want students to gain a sense of place – making sense of their surroundings, gaining a deeper appreciation of the physical and human inter-relationships that form our diverse planet. Most of all we want them to be global citizens and know the role they play in shaping the world around them.
Geography is a very dynamic and topical subject at A Level and students find it helps them to understand the world they live in. The breadth and depth of study currently offers the students the opportunity to explore areas such as tectonic hazards, international conflict, weather and climate and the geography of health and disease to name but a few.
Fieldwork is a vital part of A Level Geography and there is opportunity for local and more distant fieldwork over the two years, including residential fieldwork that supports knowledge and understanding developed in the classroom. Previous destinations have included Naples, Iceland, London and the Lake District. Due to the varied nature of the subject, Geography students develop and hone a wide range of skills which provides an excellent foundation for future academic pursuits and employment.
