An Award-Winning Author and an Unforgettable Experience 📚

This week, our Key Stage 3 students enjoyed the incredible opportunity to meet Beth O'Brien, author of the award-winning Wolf Siren. 🥳

Fresh from winning the prestigious Carnegie Medal for Writing, Beth captivated KS3 students with insights into her journey as an author, sharing readings from her critically acclaimed reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood and exploring the enduring appeal of fairy tales from around the world. She also led thought-provoking discussions on the importance of disability representation in literature and the power of stories to help us better understand different experiences.

The visit didn't stop there. Beth hosted a creative writing workshop in the Library for students involved in Carnegie Medal shadowing, alongside our Librarians and Reading Champions. Students were given the rare opportunity to speak with Beth in a smaller group setting, learning about the evolution of fairy tales before taking part in a series of creative prompts designed to spark their own storytelling.

Beth encouraged our budding authors to develop their creations into full-blown fairy tales, leaving many inspired to continue writing long after the session had ended.

A huge thank you to Beth for such an engaging, inspiring and memorable visit and to our brilliant Librarian, Mrs Holt, for arranging it.

Experiences like this don't come along every day. Having the chance to hear directly from an award-winning author, ask questions and take part in creative workshops was a truly memorable opportunity for our lucky students.
