A Rock Solid Performance...

Students from Years Ten to Thirteen recently took part in the Geological Society of London regional schools competition, hosted by the University of Plymouth.

The competition, designed to encourage and foster interest in the study of the Earth Sciences, was divided into junior and senior sections.

The junior team had to design an academic poster about the study of the Earth. The judges commented on the excellent quality of all of the entries, and our very own TGGS girls were placed first!  Our winning team created a poster about the volcanic threat to the city of Naples, a place they will be visiting in April as part of the 'Developing Seismology' project the school is undertaking with partner schools in Naples, Nice and Leeds.

The school also entered a team for the sixth form competition.  This involved the production of an academic poster, a presentation on the subject of the poster and a quiz designed by the staff at the University of Plymouth.

After a very close competition, our team gained second place, narrowly losing out to the team from Wells Cathedral School.  Not bad considering they don't study Geology as an A level subject!

Mr Neighbour said, “We are delighted with the very professional manner that all our students showed, and they fully deserved their excellent results."
