Home School Agreement

At Torquay Girl’s Grammar school, we believe that the relationship between the school and our parents is integral to ensuring students thrive and develop the skills, character, self-esteem and qualifications to be successful.

Torquay Girls Grammar school will provide a safe, nurturing and disruption free learning environment with safeguarding and the well-being of our students at the heart of all we do.

To support the school’s vision and aims, it is important that parents are informed of our expectations and support the school’s policies. By signing this agreement, you are recognising that you will make every effort to ensure that your child follows our expectations.

Attendance:

  • Students are expected to be in school by 8.45am every day.
  • All Parents/carers must notify the school every day of any unplanned absence by 8.30am or as soon as practically possible.  Parents should use Studybugs to inform the school of absence.  For students in Year 7-11, they may also use the absence line: 01803 653750.
  • We encourage parents/carers to make medical and dental appointments out of school hours where possible to limit the impact of appointments on learning.  Where this is not possible, the student should be out of school for the minimum amount of time necessary, eg. at the beginning or end of the school day.
  • The Headteacher will only grant a leave of absence to students during term time if they consider there to be 'exceptional circumstances'.

Behaviour:

All students are expected to follow the TGGS Behaviour Charter and to meet the behaviour expectations of the school community.  We expect parents/carers to support the school in the maintenance of high standards of behaviour and discipline.  All parents/carers and students will have access to ClassCharts which is an online portal which provides information about your child’s behaviour, house points and homework.

Please do take time to read the school’s Behaviour Policy, the TGGS Behaviour Charter, the Mobile Phone policy and the Anti-Bullying policy.

Homework:

The school will set homework because it is important to consolidate and/or extend the work undertaken in school.

Parents/carers are expected to support the school in the management of homework, and parents/carers and students will be able to view the homework set by staff via ClassCharts.

Communication:

The school will communicate with parents regularly through progress sheets, tutor report, parents' evenings and newsletters.  We will also send letters about any activity or events which may affect their child.  The school welcomes enquiries and visits at any mutually convenient time should a parent/carer have any concern.  Please do contact your child’s tutor in the first instance if you have any concerns.

Parents/carers are asked to keep the school informed of any circumstances which may affect a student’s ability to work in school or require special consideration.

To support staff well-being, staff will only respond to communication between 7.30am and 6pm on a working day.
