Further collaboration success for Computer Science and Geology

The Computer Science and Geology departments have been working together with the Education and Outreach department at the Laboratoire Géoazur (GEOAZUR), which is part of the Université Côte d'Azur. Head of Department Gordon Neighbour has been assisting with the development of teaching materials for the NASA Mars InSight mission which has recently recorded its first-year anniversary since the lander touched down on the Red Planet. Jean-Luc Berenguer who is the education and outreach officer at the Laboratoire Géoazur commented "...thank you for your contribution to the creation of resources, and to the success of this InSight Education component. You have ... given your time and creativity to make this Education component exist. Many researchers were impressed by what was put in place..." following a National Jury review held recently into the project.

A group of students in year 9 are now working with Mr Neighbour to produce teaching materials for the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover mission which will be landing in the early part of 2021 on the Red planet.  As acknowledged by Monsieur Berenguer, the work has "...shown that scientific mission follow-up by school children is possible...".

Mr Neighbour is also working together with a year 8 group on a project on educational seismology, together with partner schools in Germany and Iceland.
