Year 12 Trip to London

Year 12 Critical Thinking, Art and Drama students had a fantastic visit to the Capital recently. The very busy two day schedule saw students visit the Old Bailey and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, experience a Jack the Ripper tour, have a night at the theatre and even fit in a bit of christmas shopping on Oxford Street!

Check out these student reviews by LJ Williams, Caoimhe Taylor and Rebecca Wright to find out all about what they got up to:

Year 13 Awards Evening

Congratulations to all of those who were recognised at the awards ceremony last night.

It was a fantastic evening, and the filled hall enjoyed not only the presentations, but an excellent speech and the opportunity to revisit the 'Seven Ages of TGGS' thanks to Year 13 Drama students.

You can see some more photographs of the evening here.

U18 Netball Tournament

Chloe Binmore fires another shot netwards in the first match against Churston Ferrers Grammar.

TGGS hosted an U18 netball tournament today against sides from Churston, Kingsbridge and Trinity.

Some fierce competition and sensational play from all sides.  Results to follow, but you can catch some of the action by viewing the photos of the afternoon here.

International School Award for TGGS!

We’ve been awarded the British Council’s International School Award!

This prestigious award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education.

Our initiatives to bring the world into the classroom currently include a major project with partner schools in Nice, Naples and Leeds, which is looking at developing low cost devices for measuring earthquakes, as well as a range of activities with Imprezza School in Kenya, and with exchange partner schools in France and Germany. A new innovation this year is the use of an e-Twinning project with several schools across Europe, looking at the risks associated with volcanic eruptions.

International Development Secretary Justine Greening says: “I am delighted to celebrate the international work of Torquay Girls' Grammar School and the energy and passion of the young people involved.  The International School Award is a great way of highlighting how young people have the potential to change things for the better.  I’m sure that schools getting involved will be broadening the horizons of their students, which will not only help their careers but benefit their wider lives in the future.”

Fantastic A Level Results!

This year's A Level results once again cement our position as a national leader in A Level provision. Overall, 73% of grades were awarded at A* - B; with 26 students achieving three or more A grades. Mr Gregory, Director of Sixth Form, paid tribute to the approach of the ‘Class of 2015’, saying “Year 13 were a wonderful year group. They managed to successfully combine supporting their community through charitable works with the ability to work really hard when necessary.  We are all extremely pleased for them”.

Headteacher Dr Nick Smith added “All the hard work has paid off. Our Sixth Form has enabled these girls to achieve the grades to get into the top universities on their preferred courses. I am proud of the girls and proud of my staff.“
