KS4 Drama

At GCSE we follow the AQA Drama specification. This consists of four pieces of group-based practical coursework and a final written examination.

The coursework explores a range of theatrical styles, which take the form of both existing plays and original texts created by the students.

Preparation for the written paper further develops performance analysis by enabling the student to evaluate live theatre performance from the viewpoint of a theatre critic, and by encouraging in-depth analysis of a set text from the viewpoint of an actress.

The course offers widely recognised benefits in terms of developing a range of performance and interpersonal skills, including teamwork and communication, and builds confidence.

KS5 Drama

At KS5 students follow the AQA Drama and Theatre Studies specification.

THE COURSE

This course allows opportunities for students to:-

• Explore and perform play texts as actor, director and designer. Design options include set, lighting, sound and costume.
• Devise and script their own performances.
• Study theatre history in the context of contemporary performances.
• Study live theatre.

Students will be expected to attend after school rehearsals in preparation of practical performances. As much of the work involves group performances, a commitment to lessons and rehearsals is vital. Students will also be expected to experience several ‘live’ performances to expand their theatrical experience.

CAREERS

The course will provide a sound basis for entry into drama and media, as well as any career requiring skills in research, public speaking and communication.
