Sixth Form Uniform

Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a place of work and all Sixth Form students must abide by a simple dress code so that they present a professional image to the rest of the school and to members of the public. We ask girls to observe a code, which seeks to ensure that they avoid extremes of fashion, are dressed smartly, appropriately and safely.

All Sixth Form students are required to wear:

  • a smart tailored, plain black jacket or blazer (no denim or leather);
  • a white or cream plain blouse;
  • black trousers or a black knee-length skirt;
  • smart black shoes or boots;
  • a smart knee-length, plain black dress suitable for a place of work is also acceptable.

Please note that if you are unable to find a suitable jacket on the high street or on-line– the plain black Girls’ Colchester Suit Jacket can be purchased from our uniform supplier – SWI Schoolwear  Please contact the Sixth Form Office should you have any queries.

Students are not allowed to wear the following:

  • short skirts;
  • black jeans or leggings;
  • ‘T’ shirts with pictures or slogans;
  • flip-flops or trainers;
  • hair which is dyed an extreme colour.

Discreet ear and nose piercings are acceptable in sixth form; however, please be aware that staff may challenge students and ask them to remove facial jewellery if it is deemed too excessive.

Any girl arriving at school who does not adhere to the dress code or whose dress is contrary to Health and Safety requirements will be asked to change immediately, even if this means having to return home.

If you have any queries about uniform please speak to Mrs Horrocks or Mrs Asplen in the Sixth Form Office – Tel: 01803 653756
