BEST EVER A Level Results!

This year’s A Level results are the highest in our school’s history, and some of the best in the country for a state school.  A highly impressive 82% of grades were awarded at A* - B with 32% of  students achieving at least three A grades.

Head of Careers, Mr Neighbour, confirmed that 93% of students have secured places at their first choice university. This includes all 8 medical students who, having followed the school’s Medical Occupations Programme, attained coveted places at medical schools. 62.5% of students will go on to the prestigious Russell Group.

Liberty Palmer achieved four A* grades alongside being a Head of House and highly involved in the school’s extensive charitable work. Rebecca Harrison achieved three A*s whilst being Chair of the Torbay Junior League of Friends (supporting Torbay Hospital), one of the only such groups in the country.  Amelia Johnson could not envisage life without History, and so with her 4 A Levels, 3 at A*, she is off to the highly prestigious History course at Exeter University which includes a year abroad. Lily James was one of those students offered an unconditional place by Birmingham University, a growing trend, but she still achieved all A grades, and following her work experience with local MP Kevin Foster, she is going to read Political Science and International Relations.

Head of Sixth Form, Ms Browne, paid tribute to the approach of all the students in the ‘Class of 2018’ saying “We worried for and with them throughout the two years, but had confidence that they would come through…and they really did.’ She added that the figures hide the stories behind the results saying that ‘some of the students had to cope with immense personal issues during these two years and I am particularly pleased for them.’

Headteacher, Dr Smith, commented: “I’m always proud of our results, but these are outstanding; I am fortunate to work in a school where the staff are so dedicated to ensuring our students achieve their aspirations’.

Some Year 12 students braved the stormy skies to try paddle sports at decoy lake. Judging from the pictures, it was worth it!

Looks like a fab day out, well paddled girls!

TGGS Sixth Form in UK Top 10%

According to Department for Education data, collated by Alps, our Sixth Form progress measure averaged over the last three years puts us in the top 10% of schools in the UK for A Level Progress. Considering that our students are already high performing when they join us, we are justifiably proud that they make such significant progress during their time in our Sixth Form.

A huge well done to our dedicated teaching and support staff for all they do to enable our students' success.
